What's in the box:

All of our rackmount servers are shipped in custom made packaging for maximum protection and secure transit.

Condition & Warranty

This refurbished Server is sold in excellent condition and is marked Grade A.

Having been decommissioned from a previous work space you can expect some light cosmetic markings (scuffs and scratches) around the outer chassis/case. The system is not brand new but any scratches or blemishes are purely cosmetic and obviously have very little effect on the technical function of the system, which has been cleaned both inside and out.

We use custom made boxes (matching the original manufacturer specification) and durable expanding foam cushioning to ensure that your product arrives safely. Take a look at our reassuring packaging process.

What is refurbished?

Our refurbished Servers have been usually been removed from working environments in large corporate design office or public sector facilities due to upgrade, lease end or bankruptcy. Every Server passes through our 6-step refurbishment process which provides a complete system overhaul from our trained technicians, rebuilding every component to ensure that your machine is technically as good as new.

All refurbished Servers from bargain hardware are supported by a 90-day warranty, covering all integral hardware and parts/components that affect the functionality of the equipment.

At bargain hardware we only deal with enterprise and business class hardware from the worlds leading manufacturers. Originally sold with lengthy 3-5 year warranties, the workstations we sell are designed with robust architecture for the ultimate reliability.

Our standard 90 day warranty provides sufficient time to allow you to fully 'soak test' your purchase and discover any unlikely, underlying issues. Modern systems have at most only a single mechanical part (the hard drive) and failure rates of the main electrical components (processor, memory and motherboard) are incredibly low.

It is well publicized that extended warranty packages are very rarely a good deal for the customer. The administrative costs involved in storing and tracking extended warranty details would increase our costs and therefore our prices. Feedback suggests that customers are more than happy with our quality and service, and would prefer us to maintain our highly competitive pricing.

Is extended warranty available?

For reasons detailed above, we dont have any standard extended warranty options. If this is likely to be an issue please contact us and we can talk about potential options.

How to start an RMA/Warranty Claim:

If you have any problems with your order you can find full contact details and instructions on our returns and refunds contact page.

  1. Massive storage and powerful ESXI host 5 Star Review

Posted by on 26th Jul 2017

An excellent all-rounder when it comes to computing power, with a ton of space for RAM (up to 288GB per server).

We bought three which all came with Adaptec 51245 and is fully compatible with ESXI/vSphere 6.5 using the drivers for the Adaptec series 8 drivers (as recommended by Microsemi support). Worth noting that going from the anonymous review on 25th Jun this may not be the same RAID card in every server, though perhaps the majority.

Set up with 12 HGST 6TB Ultrastar 7K6000 in RAID 6, getting extremely good read speeds upwards of 1.5GBps on large files (400-500MBps on small files) and having added a battery to the RAID card some 300MBps writes on files < 1GB too. Random read/write is a very healthy 30-40MBps, which is fantastic since a single drive only scores 2MBps.

The motherboard is a Tyan S7012, and this guide came in useful for updating it: http://mywiredhouse.net/blog/setting-used-tyan-s7012/

The IPMI's static IP can be turned on in the BIOS, but the numbers can't be changed! We had to run a local DHCP server, assign it the right settings, then switch from DHCP to static in the BIOS to get them to stick.

Otherwise running ESXI 6.5 perfectly well as-is. Tested running 12 concurrent Windows 10 Pro VMs playing a video on VLC using 75% CPU, as well as 50 Linux VMs running Debian with GNOME playing the same video sample using under 20% CPU with the X5680s. Not exactly a real-world test, but gives a rough idea of what it's capable. Scored 1751 on Cinebench R15 and 16891 on Passmark, so a brilliant machine for rendering as well as storing a lot of stuff.

Has one ethernet for IPMI, two 1Gb NICs and a ethernet socket that doesn't seem to connect to anything besides the LEDs.

Works excellently with Proxmox as well, but can't get it to see the RAID card stats properly (reports as a single 60TB drive).

Also, as someone else mentioned, it's loud! We have two of these as production servers and one as a dev server, the dev one being in our office. It is easily louder than your average hoover. We bought a Logic Case 4U Standard Chassis 15 x 3.5" HDD for that one, runs reasonably quietly with the 120mm fans (no more than an average desktop) and temps are still in the 40-50c range with the provided passive coolers.

Overall, it's worth it for the RAID card alone but together with the power it's a fantastic server for anyone looking for a decent chunk of power and a lot of storage.

Feel free to email me if you have any questions :)

  2. Good value storage server 4 Star Review

Posted by on 25th Jun 2017

Overall very happy with my purchase.

As stated before, noisy, but I was happy to see that the temperatures stayed well within specs despite me sticking it on a shelf in a garage that's got quite warm over the the recent heatwave.

I'm not sure whether these are all the same spec, but for what it's worth mine was built around a Tyan S7012 motherboard. An unexpected bonus was that the BMC includes IPKVM functionality. I found the following link useful to get access to this, as it was password protected with a non-default password when I received the server:

Do note my comment of 7/6/2017 on the above page if you're going to flash the BIOS.

The RAID card was not Adaptec as stated in the description, but some LSI Megaraid model. I didn't look at it too much beyond doing a basic OS load for a burn-in, as I replaced it with an LSI 9201-16i SAS HBA.

  3. Loud, high performance budget server 4 Star Review

Posted by on 31st May 2017

    Perfect solution on low budget.
3x 9k rpm coolers are very loud (~80-90db), but they do the cooling perfectly.
    Fast shiping to EU

  4. It's beautiful! 5 Star Review

    It works as expected.
The only small drawback is that his sound is... a little loud :-) like a jet at take-off :-)

  5. Good quality and excellent service 5 Star Review

One of the trays was damaged and they sent a replacement as soon as possible. Everything else works as expected.
