HPE ProLiant DL360 Gen9: CPU, RAM & HDD Compatibility

Note: The information below is based on extensive in-house research and hands-on testing conducted by our expert technicians.

This guide offers detailed insights into CPU, RAM, and HDD/RAID compatibility for the HPE ProLiant DL360 Gen9 server. It provides essential configuration and optimisation tips to maximise performance.

CPU COMPATIBILITY

• Compatible with all Intel Xeon V3 and V4 CPUs.

• Standard heatsinks are required for CPUs under 120W, while high-power heatsinks are necessary for CPUs above this threshold to maintain optimal cooling and performance.

RAM COMPATIBILITY

RAM frequency and compatibility are dependent on both the CPU installed and the type of RAM used. Additional technical details can be found here.

  • Supports DDR4 Registered (RDIMM) and Load Reduced (LRDIMM) memory types.
  • 24 DIMM slots available (12 DIMM slots per processor, 4 channels per processor, 3 DIMMs per channel).
  • Maximum capacity with LRDIMM: 3TB (24 x 128GB LRDIMM modules).
  • Maximum capacity with RDIMM: 768GB (24 x 32GB RDIMM modules).
  • 128GB DIMMs must be used exclusively and cannot be mixed with other DIMM sizes.
  • NVDIMMs are incompatible with LRDIMMs and have a maximum support limit of 16 NVDIMMs.
  • Note: NVDIMMs are supported only on factory-configured servers with E5-2600 v4 processors, and not on servers upgraded from E5-2600 v3 to E5-2600 v4.

HDD/RAID COMPATIBILITY

  • HPE Dynamic Smart Array B140i Controller - Onboard controller for basic configurations.
  • HPE H240ar Smart Host Bus Adapter for enhanced performance.
  • HPE Flexible Smart Array P440ar/2GB - Suitable for various configurations.
  • 8-Bay SFF Hot-Plug backplane with options for Universal Media Bay or NVMe drive support.
  • 10 SFF bays; 8 SFF Model with optional 2 SFF SAS/SATA Hot-Plug support (10-Bay option requires specific cable connections and RAID controllers for enhanced performance).

Note:

• For E5-2600v3 Entry models, the embedded B140i will function only in UEFI mode.

• Legacy mode support requires an additional controller.

• The B140i defaults to AHCI when used off the chipset. The HPE Dynamic Smart Array Controller must be enabled for SATA-only models if required.
