Media Composer primarily utilities 6-10 cores for the most editing tasks however more cores are necessary when editing 4K UHD or higher resolutions. The 'Basic' specification is designed for AVID users primarily working with 1080p HD projects and experimenting with small 2K projects. The basic build features a fully certified setup ensuring you have access to AVID support.
The 'Intermediate' workstation is suitable for 2K & 4K UHD work however workflows consisting of mainly large UHD 5994 4 stream XAVC projects and higher resolutions the 'Expert' specification is recommended. The Expert configuration features a fully certified Media Composer build to ensure you have access to AVID support when you need it.
Our 'Render Optimised' workstation is designed for mostly transcoding/rendering work, the Expert Workstation will ultimately deliver better performance whilst used for only editing whilst the render optimised system will deliver improved render times due to the increased core and RAM count. Further information on what is required for certain tasks can be found on AVID's knowledge base here alternatively you read our full Media Composer buying guide.
We recommend having two drives which provides the best performance:
3.5" to 2.5" converters are automatically added here if SSDs are selected.
Graphics cards with DMS-59 connections will automatically add a 'DMS-59 to VGA Splitter' to your configuration (you can change this to a DVI splitter below if required). You can then plug in a VGA/DVI cable into the splitter.
Refer to the graphics card and/or monitor descriptions to see supported cable type.
Every workstation has an integrated 1GbE RJ-45 port for connection with your router/network, additional >2GbE options are available, but not required, for professionals on high-speed networks that need an ultra-fast connection. Wi-Fi options are available for individuals who cannot plug directly into their routers.
No external cables (Power cables/Monitor cables) are included by standard. If you require any additional cables you can find the standard power cable for the system below and additional monitor cables here.
Our monitors are graded cosmetically from A+ to B. View our Grading Guide for more information.
Monitor power cables are automatically added to your configuration as required for your monitor selection.
